Joondalup United’s Amateurs and Masters teams enjoyed a 4-1 win over local rivals Carramar on Friday night in a charity fundraiser game.
Played in front of a good crowd at Houghton Park, the contest was the first in what will hopefully be an annual event.
On this occasion, all proceeds from the night, including bar and food sales, went to Intelife, one of the State’s premier disability service providers.
The two Masters teams played out an entertaining 1-1 draw over the course of the first 90 minutes, with ex-Scunthorpe United and Brighton & Hove Albion star Matty Sparrow pulling the strings for JUFC.
JUFC midfielder Angus Richardson opening the scoring as he curled home a fine effort from just outside the penalty area, however the home side drew level just after the half hour mark.
The Amateurs took over for the second half, and it didn’t take JUFC long to find the net as Drew Kirkpatrick used his pace to get in behind the defence before finishing well.
It didn’t take long for the lead to be extended, though there was an element of good fortune about Adam Rogers’ goal as his cross looped over the Carramar goalkeeper and into the net.
After Chris Bryce had made some good saves between the posts for JUFC, Mike Kenny collected the ball in midfield and surged through the defence before finishing low.
Coaches Graeme Reid and Ben Williams collected the trophy for JUFC, and we look forward to the rematch in 2018.
